ChatGPT Goes Mobile: Now Available on Android!

OpenAI has recently launched an Android app for ChatGPT.

This application is now downloadable in the United States, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil. OpenAI has also expressed its intention to progressively extend its availability to additional countries within the upcoming week. If you’ve managed to stay disconnected from the digital world for the past half year (congratulations on that), ChatGPT stands as an AI-powered chatbot introduced by OpenAI in December 2022. Until recently, it was solely accessible through the official website.

Roughly two months following the debut of the ChatGPT iOS app — which marked the initial expansion beyond the confines of the ChatGPT website — this development has emerged. In the earlier period, users had expressed a strong desire for an application-based option. However, recent data from Sensor Tower and Similarweb indicates a decline in both web traffic and app installations during June, according to a report by The Verge.

Although this marks the debut of the official ChatGPT app on the Android platform, OpenAI’s presence in the chatbot market isn’t a newcomer. The company already fuels the Bing AI chatbot, which has been accessible as an Android app for several months. Furthermore, reports from Bloomberg suggest that Apple is actively engaged in developing its own AI chatbot. In a conversation with Good Morning America, Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed optimism about the potential of ChatGPT-style bots. However, the timeline for the readiness of Apple’s AI chatbot remains uncertain, and it’s unclear whether it will soon become available on both iOS and Android app stores.
